Morgan v Associated Newspapers Ltd
In a case(Morgan v Associated Newspapers) brought by our client, Redrow founder Steve Morgan C.B.E., Mr Justice Nicklin has rejected an application by Associated Newspapers Ltd, publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail Online, seeking to amend its Defence to remove its previous admission that an article, published in the Mail in August 2017, had caused our client serious harm.
The article made false allegations that Mr Morgan had purchased 6 affordable housing units at a substantial discount. The Judge found that the Mail’s article had accused him of having “exploited his position to line his own pockets in a greedy, unethical and morally unacceptable way”. The true position is that Mr Morgan did not buy the homes at a discount at all. He paid full value for the homes after they had failed to sell to registered providers of affordable housing and the homes have always been used to house qualifying tenants as affordable lets.
