Matt is a founder director at Himsworth Scott, having established Himsworths Legal in 2012, after spending 10 years at media law firm Schillings advising some of the firm’s highest profile clients on the laws of defamation, privacy, confidentiality, harassment, copyright and other associated media laws.
He is ranked as a leader in his field in both the Chambers and Legal 500 legal guides and, in 2009 was awarded the Lawyer magazine’s Assistant Solicitor of the Year Award.
He has acted for some of the most celebrated names in sport and works as a trusted adviser to many top Premier League and Championship Football Clubs.
Matt provides reputation and privacy protection services to players, coaches and executives and has worked hard with the clubs’ education departments to deliver a unique education and mentoring programme for Academy and Elite Development squads in relation to reputation, privacy, the media and social media. Matt continues to extend this educational offering to other sectors including FTSE 100 companies, government organisations and high-net-worth families.
Aside from sport his client base includes high profile individuals and companies from diverse industries such as commodities, banking, entertainment, digital and tech, education and health.

- acted for claimants in some of the most significant libel cases of the 2000s including Collins Stewart v Financial Times (2003-2006) a case which saw the FT’s publisher pay record libel damages of £300,000, Las Vegas Sands and Sheldon Adelson v Associated Newspapers (2006-2008) a case in which the Daily Mail published an unprecedented page 3 apology and Gunvor International BV v Economist Newspapers (2008-2009).
