Sports

We have an impressive roster of sports industry clients, including football clubs, player associations, governing bodies and sports personalities. We have a wealth of sports law experience, advising these clients on matters such as reputation management, social media education and audits, disputes, sponsorship deals, regulatory work, general contractual issues, branding and intellectual property issues.

Our work includes:

  • Social media education
  • Reputation management
  • General contractual work
  • Advertising and sponsorship
  • Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs)
  • Reputation audits

Our sports lawyers facilitate deals between governing bodies and broadcasters. When working on sports media rights agreements, clients are mainly either sports governing bodies or broadcasters. Sports governing bodies hold the rights to particular events, while broadcasters bid for the rights to that content.

Case Study - Russia FIFA World Cup 2018

Challenge: Preparing our clients for Russia

What we did: Before and during the tournament, we advised on and negotiated contracts, business and contractual disputes (both within the UK, Russia and elsewhere), dealt with paparazzi press harassment, online media, false stories and allegations on television, newspaper and online.

The result: …. Once the event had finished we calculated that, between us, we have worked with no fewer than 14 players who have played in FIFA World Cup Semi Finals and Finals. That’s enough talent to win the tournament. When the lawyering was done, we even got to watch some of the games.
